Yucaipa population has grown 32 percent since 2000, with the city now home to over 54,000 residents.
Yucaipa began as a small rural community in the eastern foothills, but the past two decades have brought steady growth. The 2000 Census recorded 41,207 residents; today the city is home to approximately 54,465 people. That growth reflects a broader pattern in the Inland Empire: families choosing communities that offer suburban living with access to outdoor space and smaller-town character.
The city designated Yucaipa a Fire Risk Reduction Community in recognition of the wildfire threat common to California foothills and the work residents undertake to mitigate it. Emergency services have expanded along with the population—the Fire Department now responds to nearly 10,000 calls annually, up from approximately 6,000 just fifteen years ago. Three full-service fire stations serve the city, and about 75 percent of emergency calls are medical emergencies from households.
